Project-Based Learning

At South Pointe Elementary School we use multiple teaching methods. These teaching methods are used to be culturally responsive, to help students increase their level of thinking, provide opportunities to express their creativity, and provide our students with choice.
Project-Based Learning or PBL is a teaching method we use to motivate students to gain knowledge and retain the information learned. PBL gives students the chance to apply 21st-century skills they are learning in school to personally relevant and real-world situations. Your child also learns skills in PBL, such as how to think critically, communicate, solve problems, collaborate, and make presentations. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.
Here at SPES students participate in Project Based learning daily and projects are completed monthly or every other month. At the end of the project, students will share their work publicly here at South Pointe Elementary during our monthly family/community events held on our campus.
Students will be assessed individually in the project, based on the knowledge they gain and the skills they demonstrate upon completing one of the nine project options at home. As parents or guardians, you can discuss the project at home, encouraging your child to think hard and ask questions about the topic. Students will also work on research and learning new information about their projects in their classes with their teachers.
Below you will find the list of PBL topics and months students will perceive each month. Their teacher will provide you with the class-specific topic by the 1st Friday of each month. Please do not hesitate to contact the school at (602) 276-1943. if you have any questions about the project or Project-Based learning!
Project Choice Boards
- Student must choose on (1) of the projects to complete for the month's PBL Projects

- Daily in class, teachers will provide students with visual aids and examples of projects on choice boards
- Students can only complete each project once, once a project is chosen it can not be used the next month.
